I need help from Santa this year! My iMac has become crippled in its network speed. All was fine, for years!

I have:

1) An iMac

2) A Windows 7 laptop

3) A Dlink wireless router

4) An iPad

5) Cable modem, high speed internet (levels are great)

The windows laptop and iPad are fine.

The Mac loads browser pages like molasses. Sometimes never. I even tried switching to WiFi to see if that was it. No better. So something is wrong in the Mac itself.

I downloaded ClamAV in case I had a virus. There were some infected files, eg mp3s, but I've just deleted them.

After all this, what could the problem be???

Which year and model of iMac do you have?  How many GB's of RAM do you have installed?  And do you really use Lion 10.7.2 on your iMac currently, as your Profile says?  To find these out you can click on the APPLE icon in the upper left corner of your screen>click on "About This Mac">click on "More Info">click on "System Report">these windows you just went thru have the above needed info:

    It is a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4MB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM - mid 2007 iMac 7.1.

No, I use 10.8.2. I need to update my profile.
