Why am I unable to navigate my iTunes on my iPhone 5 when it is connected to my 2012 Buick Lacrosse USB. It plays the music and I can manage via the cars console but the phone doesn't allow me?

I have a new iPhone 5 and also a new 2012 Buick Lacrosse. I have been able to use my iPod Nano into the Buick's usb port and navigate the songs via the nano. But when I plug in the new phone through the same usb, I'm unable to use the phone to navigate through my music. The music plays and I can forward/rewind on the console. However, this is not as fast as it would be through the phone. Buick told me this is an Apple security feature. I call BS. I also called apple customer service and they acted like I was crazy. Does anyone have any idea?

When you connect to an external control device that device can take over the user interface for your phone. It is how GM decided to implement it. They are passing to buck if they say Apple chose the implementation.

I appreciate the commentary response but I'm not sure how this resolved my problem. The car was made before the iPhone coming out. By this fact, it would seem as if Apple has not made the product to compliment cars made before it.

Can anyone provide me steps to resolve this issue please?

With several thousand models of cars that were manufactured before the iPhone came out (meaning car models 6 or more years old) you believe that Apple has the responsibility to be compatible with all of them? There's nothing more to say!

I don't believe I said all of them. But for cars made in 2012-- Yes. I do think Apple should be compatible. Especially American made cars.

Addtitionally, I switched from my Droid a couple weeks ago to the Apple because of all the hoopla around Apple. My droid was compatible. Should Apple be? At least I have a month from my purchase to return it. I don't want to, but this is a pretty needy thing I expect from my phone that really shouldn't be this challenging. So are you admitting that Apple is not up to par with the Android?

Thats just the way is works. it works the same in my Acura. Once plugged in usb, your car controls the phone. If your car has bluetooth streaming, you can use that and be able to use the phone to navigate your songs.
