Ipad mini is not recognized by iTunes 11 on Mac with 10.6.8

I want to synch music in iTunes that was ripped from CDs to an ipad mini but when I connect the ipad shows in devices but is grey and at that point iTunes is frozen, iPhoto opens and the pics on the mini are displayed so the mini is being recognized as a camera, I close iPhoto and iTunes works if I disconnect the mini, I did the trouble shooting, updates and reboot of both Mac and mini, what else can I try?

iPad 2, iOS 5.0.1, Mac desktop

Did you try to disable the camera notification?

Do not forget the Addional Information pargaraph of:

That applies to 10.6.8 only.

Nothing worked but there was an ios update to it yesterday and this morning it worked, the mini updated to 6.2 while the ipod updated to 6.1, they both are connecting and synching now, but setting up the yahoo mail on the mini was tricky, thank goodness goole helped there

Well still nothing works. I updated IOS (11), I uninstalled (shut down and restarted) and re-installed itunes, bought a new cable - everything......The ipad is recognised but not as an ipad - more like a camera so I cant load anything.....

Ideas ?
