Any Video Converter - Locating / deleting temporary files

I have a MacBook Pro with Retina Display running OSX 10.8.2.

Installed on it I have Any Video Converter (free download from the app store). When ever I convert a ".avi" file to a ".mp4" using this program I notice my hard drive space diminishing.

With all macs you can click on the apple in the top left hand corner of screen select about this mac > more info > storage, and it will show you which types of files are occupying space on the hard drive.

Each time I convert an avi file to mp4 I notice the "Movies" section increase accordingly but so too does the "Other" file classification. This leads me to believe there is a hidden folder created by Any Video Converter which is filling up with temporary files or something similar, more and more each time I convert another video.

Can you help me to locate these files so that I can delete them and unleash the space on my hard drive once again.

First, to find out what this app is doing to your Mac, you'll need to contact the developer of the app. Find a link in the App Store on the info page for the app.

Then, of course, some apps use temporarily space on your HDD for one or another purpose. "Temporarily" meaning that it'll be freed up again at some point, latest when you quit the app or restart the system. If so, then you have nothing to worry. If not, then question the app developer. Or remove the app alltogether and use a different one, there are tons of free video converters.

Then, to find out how your HDD space is being used, try DaisyDisk or DiskScanner. Even the free versions give you a good overview and let you "zoom" into sections and folders.

In any case, very careful with deletions especially in the "Other" category. Many files required by the OS there...

The first place I would look is the the Library. It's hidden and there is a reason it's hidden so use extreme caution when navigating the Library. From the Finder options at the top click Go and press the Option key to show the Library. Select Library > Application Support > Any Video Converter. Take a look and see if anything is out of the ordinary. Use caution and don't delete anything you're not 100% sure does not belong in that file.
