using mail on 10.6
I haven't used Mail since it changed to iClould and have discovered that I cannot send or receive mail using the Mail app on my Mac OS10.6.8. Any suggestions on how to get the account working again?

The email 'wizard' in Snow Leopard will try to set you up with MobileMe as soon as you enter an @me.com address because it's never heard of iCloud. This page lists, with illustrations, the method to get round this and set Mail up in Snow Leopard:
