iPhone 5 WiFi high latency and slow download speeds on iOS 6.0.2

I'm having the same issue. On both my work wifi and home wifi. I think it may be hardware issues due to my wifi has a new iPad with the retina and no issues at all. But her iPhone 5 and mine are experiencing issues.

I know that the server you are testing against can impact your results. I just ran a series of about 7-8 tests using different servers. I started with the same server I generally test my laptop from, and get very similar (but slightly lower) results. My Laptop generall tests in at 11.8xMbps/1.45Mbps, my iPhone 5 just testined in at 11.06Mbps/1.27Mbps. All tests with that server give me a 30 msec ping time.

I tried 2 other servers closer to home, and they had 40+ msec pings, and ran in the 2.4-5.8Mbps/1.48-1.60Mbps speeds. I picked another server a couple hundred miles away (for grins) and got a 400msec ping with 3.46Mbps/1.06Mbps transfers. I went back to my first server and re-tested getting 11.08/1.46 on this test, so the speed is definitely related to the server, and not the iPhone for me.

I'm using AT&T U-Verse internet running 12/1.5 and using their stock 2-Wire 3600 RG for my wireless router.

Hi rbinkster, i have basically the same issue, i have a less than 48 hours old Iphone 5, on cellular data im getting 5mbps average, on my wifi home network which is faster im getting 0.50mpbs downloads and so on, ive tried those same things too, reset the networks, restarted the wifi router everything yet the Ipad keeps getting way faster downloads on the same network, i think its a software issue i think in trying to fix the wifi issues they somehow messed it up, any working solutions yet??

My wife and I have expirenced the same exact thing. I use wifi at work and i have to turn wifi off just to download my email because my phone will just sit there searching for a signal. I find that when I'm home if I'm inmy bed room which is about 30ft from my wifi base station it shows the router it shows it's got 3/4 to a full signal, but when I connect to it I get the error that unable to join. When I sit right next to teethe router the it connects, but I get .19Mbps download and .03Mbps upload speeds and pings are 94 to 118 ms on average. When I test my wife's iPad 3 and my original iPad and my Mac mini which are all hooked up on wifi I am averaging 10 to 15 Mbps download with 10 to 11Mbps uploads and pings in the 48 to 58 ms range. I have renewed my lease on wifi setting, I have made the phone forget the network at both home and work. I have done a hard reset, I have restored the phone. I have done every possible thing that can be done to fix the issue with the exception of going back wards on the iOS build. Everything I have tried does not work. I firmly believe that iOS 6.0.2 made my wifi connection worse. Please Apple fix this issue your costing me money on my LTE plan.

I'm nearly have the same problem. My iPhone 5 (OS 6.02; delivered 04.01.2013) got no or very bad connect to WiFi. Even if I'm nearby to the FRITZ WiFi repeater my iPhone 5 will be work fine. But within a disance of 2m signal will shrink dramatically and my iPhone lost connect to Wifi and try to reconnect without interruption. My wifes iPhone 5 (OS 6.02) works as fine as my iPad 1, what means fully singal in on the distant edge of the room (10m away from the repeater).

The difference between the two iPhones? black & white!

I'm having the very same issues on my iPhone 5 running iOS 6.0.2, except mine drops out and comes back in.

Another Issue that has shown up is that my iPhone and Mac Mini can't sync via wireless conection. I have tried everything I have reset the router, it shows up in iTunes, but when I try to sync either from the phone or from the Mac it times out or can't find the phone.

Same issues here. Even if any of the suggested "fixes" worked for longer than 2 minutes it is insane that they need to exist in the first place. Wifi is something that is figured out on every other device they make. Very frustrated with this problem. I get around 33mbps on my iPad and anything else connected to my wifi but my iphone 5 gets around 0.5 to 1.5mbps. No excuse.

Having same issues here as well. Searched several posts - and one suggestion seemed to work. Clear safari history and cookies. Then renew wifi lease. Then reboot phone...

After 5 minutes i have not gotten booted off my home network and the signal strength seems to be holding full.

It's also happening at my office. Will try renewing lease there too tomorrow and rebooting phone again to see if that works...

I have the same problem. 100-500ms ping response times to the wi-if router. This latency results in a major lose of network throughput. As a result in only 8-10 packets of data are being transmitted per second! These packets only contain 350kps total. This results in 350kps while connecting wifi to the Internet. All Internet speed tests result in 350kbs. I have tried many networks and 3 different iPhone 5s. They all have the same problem! Wifi is slower then 4g data. But the only place the phone works fine is in an apple store! So they con not confirm the problem. How have so few people noticed! People were up in arms about the iPhone 4 antenna issue. This is a far worse problem. This must be fixed! My ipad mini works fine. .

So Apple does not even look at this? I'm pretty tired of being in the middle of a game and someone connects with their iPhone or iPod Touch and suddenly my ping goes up and up. I have also done some tests. I have two routers in my house. If I connect my iPhone to the other router I have no problems. When I connect my iPhone to the same router as my laptop, I get a huge ping. This can not be, really.

I also have started having the same problems at home.. I never noticed it however over the last 3 weeks its gotten so bad I went out and bought a new router(didnt need it) because I thought that was the problem.

I spoke with online help from my ISP and we determined its coming from one or all of our Iphone 5's or Ipad's and it seems to be caused when they are plugged into the charger.
