Stop iTunes from starting up

How do I stop iTunes from starting up everytime I insert a blank disc? Much of the time it's not necessary to use iTunes to make a disk of files and, in fact, iTunes is much harder to use than simply burning a data disc. So, It always starts and askes stupid questions and wastes my time. How do I get iTunes to stop starting up? Same question could go for iPhoto when making a disk of photos. iPhoto just wasted 2 discs and I had to eventually esport the photos a burn then right to disk.
