Dec 20, 2012 7:34 PM in response to monsieuredenby Mike Sombrio,Sounds like the download is corrupt. Where are you getting it from?

Dec 20, 2012 7:39 PM in response to Mike Sombrioby monsieureden,I am getting it from the Turbo Tax CD-rom, which I got at the library. This is my second copy and with both, I got this message. Very strange.

Dec 20, 2012 7:51 PM in response to monsieuredenby Mike Sombrio,Ok, so you're trying to install the software from a cd correct? The library is "giving away" commercial software? I have to purchase that software every year so I'm not sure I understand.

Dec 20, 2012 7:56 PM in response to monsieuredenby frederic1943,Are you sure you're in 64 bit? A 2007 MacBook and Snow Leopard aren't native 64 bit.

Dec 20, 2012 7:59 PM in response to frederic1943by monsieureden, frederic, how can I be sure? I looked online somewhere where it said an Intel Core 2 Duo is 64 bit. That is what is under "processor" under About This Mac but maybe I'm mis-reading that?
Thanks.

Dec 21, 2012 8:22 AM in response to monsieuredenby Bob Meighan,Monsieureden... If you got a copy from the library, that is a copyright violation. You should not be installing the software unless you are the legitimate purchaser. The library is equally at fault. Since you did not purchase a copy, please do not burden our support staff. It is unfair to others who paid and are trying to use the service.

Jan 25, 2013 10:54 AM in response to monsieuredenby Macster77,Turbo Tax 2012 will not run on a mac with the Intel Core Duo . Turbo Tax 2012 only runs on 64 bit macs. You can find out what chip you have by clicking the apple icon on your computer (upper left corner) and selecting "About this Mac". For further instructions read this -> http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3696 . Why in the world Turbo Tax would do this to 32 bit owners is beyond me. It's bad enough they make you pay for a brand new copy of Turbo Tax every year. They at least should have had the courtesy to put the 64 bit system requirements for macs in bold on front of the box. Perhaps, it's time to try H&R tax software...better than paying for a whole new 64 bit mac to run TT. Has anyone used H&R tax software before?

Jan 25, 2013 10:56 AM in response to Bob Meighanby Macster77,I been using Turbox Tax for years. Why didn't guys consider you loyal 32 bit Mac customers?
-
Jan 25, 2013 11:20 AM in response to Macster77by Bob Meighan,We did. See my posts at https://discussions.apple.com/message/21010917?ac_cid=tw123456#21010917. We could have written to 32 bit for a very small number of our customers, but we also would have compromised a much better (faster, easier, more streamlined) customer experience for 95%+ of all the other Mac customers.
Thanks.

Jan 25, 2013 11:34 AM in response to Bob Meighanby Macster77,Thanks for the reply. I'm impressed that a VP these days would any bother. Kudos for that. But most people just want products that work reliably. I'm not necessarily interested in "streamlined" or "super fast", especially when it comes to tax software. The previous versions of Turbo Tax were more than user friendly and fast enough. There's a significant number of users who still have 32 bit machines because Macs tend to "just work". What's done is done though. After 8 years, I'll have to figure out something else.
Thanks again for trying help

Jan 25, 2013 11:38 AM in response to Macster77by Bob Meighan,Thanks Macster77.. As a Mac fan too, I like the fact that they "just work". Perhaps "faster, streamlined" are not the right words, but one simple example of the dilemna we faced is this. Since we wanted to be available on the App store (and now are, which is a very important distribution channel), we had to go with the tools that support 64 bit only. That's just one example. Anyway, I appreciate your comments.
