Help rebuild G5 2.7 dual panasonic lcs (pics inside)

I searched but found little on this particular Panasonic LCS unit

It's from a Dual 2.7 G5 Power Mac

The reason for the rebuild is due to age and the noise of water moving inside indicating there may be some air in there


In the 2nd and 3rd pict there is an outlet that is capped off

Was this how it was filled from the factory?

I don't see how it could have been done under pressure

Maybe the slight air inside is normal for this unit?

I dont see a factory fill valve anywhere


I plan on new hoses and o-rings and flushing it throughouly

What is the best advice to refill the unit?

Again without a fill valve I don't see how the factory could have pressure filled it without any air and just capped it with the rubber cap in the picture




What are the pinouts on the electrical

There are 2 pumps connected to a resevoir then it connects to the heatsink

The site below provides some insight into liquid cooling.

It states:


• A reservoir has a port on it, which allows you to actually fill your water-cooling system with liquid.

• A reservoir generally isn't filled all the way to the top with liquid. The extra air provides a buffer, which gives the liquid room to expand and contract as it changes temperature.

• Because the reservoir is not entirely full, it also provides a place for air bubbles in the liquid to escape, which makes for greater cooling efficiency and quieter operation.

So maybe the plastic enclosure behind the pumps is a resevoir and does have air in it as per the above?

The pump concet to the resevoir and then to the heasink


Also the conector has 6 pins.

Anyone have a pinout to run this from a psu ?

So I went the easy route.

Removed the cpus and there was no leakage underneath

Removed the black rubber cap off as in my pic above and used a hand syringe to get the fluid out.

Opened all the other hoses and retracted the fluid

Then flushed it all with vinegar and then water and blew air through it

Then used the syringe to pump fluid back in

Recapped the fill port and went for a test


All checks out great

Cpu temps had a 10 deg C difference

Now it is 1 or less

I'm not worried about a leak with the new non corrosive non conductive coolant


Bad news: I broke the tip off of one of the black plastic CPU stand off (6 per cpu)

So I fabricated something until I find another

Anyone have a spare 🙂 🙂 🙂


Down the line I'll replace hoses eventually and maybe add a T-pipe or resevoir.
