i m getting a x doria shell case for macbook air, is it ok?
plz suggest me the best options.
secondly what can i use other than the shell case to protect my mac from scratches or an accidental bump? do skins work?

not trying to be sarcastic or anything but the best protection in my opinion is the MacBook itself. I mean it's made of metal, if you were to put a plastic cover on the metal macbook it reminds me of a chuck norris joke "the kevlar vest doesn't protect chuck norris, chuck norris protects the vest"

the metallic case is to protect the things inside it . it will surely do so. but i wish to protect the protecter here. because even if it fites the fingerprints and the bumps, the scars will show, and that would diminish my chance of re selling it. now i may have been poetic here, but u just dint get the point of the question.
The problem I have with protective shells is that they're sometimes worse than just proper care and handling. I've got 2-3 year old Macs that you'd have to look pretty hard to see that they've ever been used and it's not like I only wear white gloves when I handle them.
The plastic cases can often times trap errant particles of dust, dirt, sand or other abrasive materials between the machine and the plastic case. I've serviced computers that have been in plastic cases since day #1 of ownership and they're scarred due to this issue.
So if you do decide on a hard plastic case it's critical that you remove the machine from the plastic enclosure once every week or so to clean the inside of the case where it contacts with the unit.
My MBA is about a year old and has NO scratches on the case. It's only been out of the house and on the road a few times though. My iPad (also a year old) does have some minor scratches on the bottom of the case. The metal appears to be the same or similar to the metal on my MBA.
The one thing that can definitely mar the surface is if you drop something sharp on the case. That happened to me on my previous MBP, resulting in a very annoying small dent. However, judging by what other MBPs were selling for a year ago, I reduced my asking price $100 and didn't have any trouble selling the computer with the small dent in the case.
I don't like ANY of the plastic cases I've seen for my MBA and thus, am going "naked". If you're worried about scratches, you might take a look at a Zagg protective shield. I think they run about $50 for the MBA. However, I doubt the Zagg will protect against dents, but it should do fine against scratches.
And in truth, I haven't been very protective with my iPad wihich had been out of the house several times. If I had been, perhaps the few bottom scratches would not be there on it.
