satnav vs google maps

Does anyone have an an opinion on whether it is better to use google maps on iphone or have a separate sat nav system? Also if google maps uses iphone's internet data allowance.

Thankyou :-)

The iPhone has a GPS chip. You do use your internet data allowance to access Google Maps if you are away from a WiFi hotspot. You can purchase map apps, such as TomTom, Navigon, Garmin, etc. that will place the maps on your iPhone and not use your internet data allowance.
