[iPhone 5] Downgrading iOS 6.0.2 to 6.0.1

I have the iPhone 5 A1429 model GSM.

So after finding out that the iOS 6.0.2 update was available I tried it out to see if there were improvements in the WiFi connection despite reports that the battery life was even worse after updating. I went with the update knowing that you can still downgrade (according to my friend).

Within a day, I decided that the update wasn't for me and it was draining my battery faster than ever. So I went ahead with the whole downgrade. Now this is when the problem arose. I googled for the iPhone 5 iOS 6.0.1 GSM IPSW file and downloaded directly from Apple server and then put the phone into DFU mode, held SHIFT and chose the downloaded IPSW file. However I encountered a problem: "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored because the firmware file is not compatible." I double checked I downloaded the right file which was: "iPhone5,1_6.0.1_10A525_Restore" (GSM version). I thought maybe the file was corrupted or something..Tried downloading again and it still didn't work. I then got linked by someone on YouTube to download from getios.com but they had only one option (A1429 CDMA/GSM) so I tried that..If i'm not mistaken, they should have separate files for each version...

Surprisingly, the version I downloaded "iPhone5,2_6.0.1_10A525_Restore" (CDMA version) somehow worked and I didn't get the error message..

Now my phone is back onto iOS 6.0.1 I am a bit happier but what confuses me is that somehow the CDMA version worked on my GSM iPhone 5..Is that possible? Or has iTunes messed something up?

Also, I've been told that downgrading isn't possible since Apple stops signing the previous version unless you save SHSH blobs..

Any ideas?

Thanks!

I am having serious issues since upgrading to ios 6.0.2. My phone cannot detect a wifi signal unless I stand within 2 feet of the router!!! This was never the case before the upgrade

I thought the upgrade was supposed to fix issues not kill the **** wifi on the phone...

Any ideas as I have tried everything from restoring the phone to reseting the network settings. All other devices at home can detect and connect to our wifi

Yippee, I'm not alone. Something happened to me recently that has made wifi sync the world's worst experience. But, guess what, I can prove you wrong. Because my one iphone using 6.0.1 and my ipad using 6.0.1 always error out as being off line even if they're on the same desk as the airport, but the other iphone with 6.0.2 actually will sync even as far at 50 feet.

I can surf the web fine on the iphone and ipad that don't sync. But, find my phone/ipad thinks they're off line.

Isn't this frustrating?

Regarding downgrading, I was surprised that apple has these files if we can't use them. So, I guess I won't. Anyway, I just got the 2nd iphone and have purposely held off upgrading until I get some time to see if it's battery lasts longer than the 1st iphone, which I upgraded almost immediately after I got it.

I checked and found some of the settings needed to be changed on the ipad and iphone 6.0.1 which I didn't realize. I had shut them off to save battery life. Anyway, icloud working, location for time zone, date and time auto, find my phone and the 5Ghz wi-fi, since I may have some bluetooth devices interfering. Now, they are showing up in itunes and are syncable.

iPhone 5 A1429 has two models: GSM and CDMA. This model usually call as Global Model.

This variant is sold for CDMA networks in the United States and everywhere outside of the United States.

A1429 CDMA models are for some LTE operators: USA and Japan.

A1429 GSM models are for LTE operators: Europe, Australia and Asia.

Basically Apple sell 3 variants iPhone 5 for international LTE coverage: GSM only (USA), CDMA (USA and Japan), and GSM/CDMA (Global models, outside USA)

That's why you experienced that problem and solved with "iPhone5,2_6.0.1_10A525_Restore"

Hope this info can help.

Happy new year everyone!
