Everyone I know with an iCloud mail account keeps getting this annoying Dr. Oz Diet spam at the same time. This miscreant has obviously figured out how to spam the whole system. Why can't Apple get this under control? Is there a spam reporting tool in iCloud?
Q: Dr.Oz Diet Spam
I had been getting spam from Dr. Oz for a month or so now.
Today, I've received at least 10 spammy emails from *@onlyyellowbugs.com to my .me account.
Like many others here, Dr. Oz and these new emails have been able to find their way through my Spam fliters.
A little worried my account may be compromised....
I've been receiving Spam from Cristine Meyer, Dr.OZ and Dr.Oz Diet. It comes to 3 of my me.com addresses. Two of these addresses have never been used. I've set up my junk mail filters. Let's hope that works!
The one I'm concerned about is my main iCloud email address because it can never be changed. I can always change an alias.
I agree with you that the iCloud mail system must be exposed in some way. This is a great concern for me.
Actually for me it's the other way around. Most of the spam I get since three or four days are coming to my @me address and only some to @icloud just like the Dr.oz one.
Anyhow, I hope Apple fixes it soon, otherwise I'll need to switch back to gmail as it's getting annoying.
I'm in Germany and I noticed that the spam messages are coming mostly late evening so morning PST. During the day no spam arrives. And this all since a few days only. Before I never got spam and I'm using my address since the first MobileMe days.
Actually, you're right. It's all going to @me.com addresses and not the @icloud.com addresses as I wrote. I noticed that I was completely earlier and forgot to correct myself.
Irrespective of that, I don't believe you'll be better served by going Google, quite the opposite in fact, given their propensity to want to use people's information in whatever way that suits their purposes. It's not like we're getting any more spam than before.
If the exposure is as I suspect, that a means to send to in in-built into the system, then more than likely the spammers don't have our address. if they did I feel the messages would be more varied. Add your mail rules, handle it like any other spammer and it won't bother you.
I received the same spam email and deleted it. I don't use that account.
A friend reports they received this same spam email supposedly from me, though clearly not when you look at the from email address. So, apparently it hacked my address book.
Anyone else had this experience or know how to stop it?

Spammers use forged mail headers, usually with the From address taken from their spam list so it makes it look like someone who was spammed was the sender to others who were spammed. You have to look at the full mail headers to see the originating IP address in order to know where the message was actually sent from. You can't trust the From or Reply-To directives as they're usually forged.
You're probably right with your statement on gmail. I do significant more spam on my gmail account which I still use occasionally, but the difference is it goes directly in the spam folder and not into my inbox.
Anyways I noticed that I get almost the same spam message everyday around 9:30pm CET which is 6:30am PST. All day long I don't get spam messages just at that time and all at once. Then it's quiet again. Did you or anybody in this thread notice something similar or is it just me?

I did a whois lookup on these domains and found that they were all registered with namecheap.com. Most of them are registered anonymously but at least one had contact information listed on the registation. I tried calling the number and it turned out to be an answering service for a Department of Environmental Quality, so they are falsifying the registration info.
One thing that has helped is to add rules in my mailbox on icloud.com. You can create a rule to move the mail to the junk folder listing just the domain rather than each individual address (I received at least 10 messages from each domain, each with a different address).
OK. for the past 2-3 days started getting spam like the Dr. Oz thing and many more on my .me address. I also noticed some of the spam came to Aliases that I hardly ever use. I emailed spam@me.com, but does stil getting at least 5-10 spams a day on my @me.com. Does anyone use some sort of aurhentication or spam filter on icloud account? I tried adding to spamarrest but it doesn't work.
I too get this junk regularly but not on my .mac account. I get it on a different domain totally separate from Apple services.
I must be missing something obvious about the whole principle of spam. As a marketing tool it seems flawed to me since if I were ever to meet these people I wouldn't purchase products and services, I'd smash the (unts square in the face with a brick.
I am also getting this spam on a domain email I have.
I never signed up for anything with these criminals.
Even though I have them blocked in Box Trapper, they use a different fake server in the headers every time, different subject lines that vary slightly and NONE of their unsub links work... which tells you they are NOT legit.
As far as I know, the real Dr. Oz doesn't even have anything to do with them.
So, they are impossible to block... I just keep bouncing.
Which brings me to my next question... I'm using 10.6 right now, but found I didn't know how to block on Apple mail in 10.8 What's the trick? Can we still do that?
