Freeing up space on my iPhone 4

So if I just delete songs from my phone but do not check the "also delete from iCloud" box. I'll still have the song in my account but not on my phone right? I'm trying to free up some space on my phone and audio is the biggest culprit. I just want to be sure that I can get the songs that I delete back if I so choose.
