What is it talking apple so long to create an update for the whine issue?

I think it is pretty ridiculous that the only update apple has released that effects the whine issue, only makes it worse. Even worse is that users over here have managed to detect and resolve the issue before apple has managed to do so. So come on apple, what's taking so long? It's amazing how badly this situation is being handled.

I was lucky enough to not install the keyboard update. Maybe Apple is gearing up for a fix that people have to pay for 🙂 Just Kidding. But I do figure that since they don't consider the whine a problem and within specs, they aren't bothering with it right now and just trying to fix other issues. I do hope they fix this whine soon and with the recent posts on the board, I'm thinking that it's only a matter of time...

apple is working on it, as has been noted and posted in this forum over and over and over...unfortunately they make mistakes, and developing something to fix an issue of this magnitude does take time....and its not that it didnt fix any whine issues, i know of many ppl whos whine issue was fixed with the 10.4.6 updates but obviously there are a few different types of whine out there, tho i find the most annoying to be the whine of impatient consumers

This is why I think we should organize a coordinated campaign to get the attention of Apple.

I propose we pick a day and have everybody that checks these boards about the whine - surely thousands of people - call Applecare and demand to speak with somebody knowleadgable enough to confirm that the whine is being worked on, and if they are clueless, then demand that they check out this discussion board and make something happen.

They do know of the issue, they don't however acknowledge its a problem. 'Try asking support. Their standard answer at this point is 'its not a problem'.

My first unit is going back for another, though I doubt it'll solve any problems.

I've forwarded my problems onto every mac person I know. My personal vendeta is to make sure every friend I have knows of these issues and goes nowhere near the notebook until its solved.

They know about the whine issue, i just talked to a product specialist who told me that they knew about it.
He also told me that Apple was not planning on adressing it since the cpu whine was within specifications.
As i said, it was a product specialist not an engineer so there is still a little hope regarding this issue being fixed sometime in the future.

I am not the only one to be disappointed about this and other problems that MBPs have.
But for now i m going to try and enjoy what i have , at the end of the year i will buy a sony loaded with vista since Apple is not able to give me satisfaction.
I m a loyal Apple customer since many years, but i have had enough, no more repairs or exchanges for me; I wil just be switching back!
The only thing that could make me change my mind is if Apple recalled my defective computer in order to give me a machine free of problem.
So far it's impossible since they don't have such a machine in stock.

I don't think Apple will specifically address the whine issue. I hope however that what some people believe is the root cause, the lack of proper speedstepping in OS X is causing the problems, that as OS X on the intel laptops is refined and Apple does more with power management, that a side effect will be the whine going away.
