How can I get Final Cut Studio to load on to my new mac?

What version are you trying to install?

FCS 1 (with FCP 5.0x) is strictly PPC only.

FCS 1.5 (FCP 5.1x) is Universal as is FCS 2.

The installer is Power PC but the programs themselves are Intel compatible.

You can install Rosetta from a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD onto a Mac OS X 10.7 (not 10.8) system first to make the installer work.

FCS 2009 is Intel only and works with Mac OS X 10.5.3 - 10.8x

I just installed Studio 2 (FCP 6.06) on my brand new 27" imac by using set up assistant and transfering my old hard drive to the new machine. The only problem was it made me enter my serial #, and Adobe Creative Suite is telling me I can not have it on more than 2 machines. Not sure if you can do this after using the new computer?

Using set up assistant will not correctly install all of FCS. There are many things buried deep that just won't copy over. It's best to clone your drive using an apllication like Carbon Copy Clone.

Luckily so far everything seems to be working. I am migrating to adobe Priemere pro but still really like some of the user friendly aspects of FCP. Can I still do a carbon copy clone at this point? Ihave worryied about the whole issue of everything will not install except FCP10. FCP seems to be working.

No, don't do a clone of an older system onto a newer computer. It will not work out well.

Thanks Mike, but so far everything is working fine! I know this was not the best choise BUT otherwise I have the whole Rosetta thing with no FCP 6/7 installation. I have not done any serious editing on these older projects (I just needed not to lose them) but I have FCP editing on a new machine that is not supported.
