Putting my music on new computer

My PC computer had a serious brain fart and wouldn't start up. I had to re-boot it from a prior set point which wiped most of my music off it. I still have it on my ipod and I have not synced the ipod since so I wouldn't lose the music totally. I got a new computer but I don't know if I should sync my ipod to it---will I lose all my music? Most of it was downloaded from friend's CDs etc..
