My daughter's mid-2009 Macbook Pro 13" loses the date, time, and wireless network password when the battery runs all the way down. Does this model have a backup battery?

When was the last time your daughter calibrated the battery? Read the user manual that came with the computer for calibration schedules. Basic info can be found - Calibrating your computer's battery for best performance
I'll check on the battery calibration. How does that affect the retaining of the date and time when the battery runs down?

try and go to the system preferences and set the time manually or if that doesnt work , you may have a dead CMOS battery, thats the battery that keeps the time whilst the main part of the mac is shutdown , they are cheap to buy and easy to install

I can set the time and date manually to the correct values. My problem is that they go away when the battery discharges. I have searched for a replacement battery but can't find one for this model.
THhanks for the proceedure for battery replacement, but this is for the earlier model. I opened up my daughter's computer and didn't see a barrery.
