How to compress mp3 files

Now that iTunes has gone to a media consumption tool, what's the best way to batch compress a bunch of MP3 files quickly? I've got over 2GB of audio recordings of public meetings that DO NOT need to be the size they are, and I want to make them at least 50% smaller.

What's the solution? Whip them all through Garage Band? Audacity? Some other workhorse audio processing tool that I haven't heard/thought of?

you's better to turn to a professional audio compressor.

Such as iTunes. No need to spend $25.

@BMcRaeC: You should follow Klaus's second link. The first has outdated instructions if you are iTunes 10 or 11 (and it brought up a couple of advertising pop-ups). The second link has the procedure more accurately.

You can select any number of original files; you can also start the convert process from menu 'File>Create New Version>Create MP3 version'.

When you delete the originals be careful to choose in the ensuing dialog box to move them to the Trash, or iTunes will remove them from the Library list but retain them in the Music>iTunes folder, uncatalogued but taking up space.

Many of my friends recommend me to use iDealshare VideoGo.

Then i just have a try, and find it really works so great.
