Q: Will it ever become available for older Mac models?

I have a mid-2010 MacBook Pro so I'm pretty bummed that I can't use AirPlay Mirroring.

I hope they somehow manage to get it to work on older models like mine.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

airplay have to send a lot! of data across the network

to be able to do that without a huge delay it rely on the video card being able to

in real time encode the frames from the screen to a m4v  H.264 stream

only the video cards in the newer macs support that feature

 

there is a 3th party program which use the cpu to do it though but performance is likely not as good
