13" MacBook will not charge, no green light.

I have tried two magsafe power adapters and there is no green light. I wonder if it could be the computer rather than the Magsafe? I have rest the Power supply by disconnecting and holding down the power button for 5 sec to avail. Can anyone with some experience tell me what to try next please?

Check for contaminants in the charging port.

Be sure to perform the SMC reset correctly before giving up:

Resetting the SMC on Mac portables with a battery you can remove

  1. Shut down the computer.
  2. Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from the computer, if it's connected.
  3. Remove the battery (to remove the battery - click here: MacBook or MacBook Pro)
  4. Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
  5. Release the power button.
  6. Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.
  7. Press the power button to turn on the computer.

Still having problems? Replace steps 6 and 7 with the following:

  1. Reconnect MagSafe power adapter.
  2. Press the power button to turn on the computer,
  3. Then reconnect the battery.

Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own

  1. Shut down the computer.
  2. Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
  3. On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
  4. Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
  5. Press the power button to turn on the computer.

Thanks John,

It seems as if there is a faulty connection - not from the charger but from the MacBook end. I tried cleaning the connections but I am not sure what to use to clean those properly. It is intermittent so it may be something is not quit connecting.

Currently it is charging but if I remove the charger and put it on again chances are it won't connect, It is very hit and miss, mostly miss. But as I say it not the Magsafe.

Any advice would be welcome.

Check the photographs on this page, especially Step 7:

Apple Portables: Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters

Look for pins that are stuck. Don't scratch the gold plating.

They recommend using a cotton swab or (dry, soft) toothbrush to clean the port and connector. I would avoid any kind of fluid, or toothpaste.

Try flipping the adapter so that its connections are reversed 180°.
