I tested the Find my Mac application, which is sweet, but it was a few houses off - it had the right street, etc, but not pinpoint accuracy. Is that something to be expected or is there a way to fine tune that?

Unfortunately accuracy depends on the networks you are connected to, it's not something you can do anything about from your phones settings.
