Why is a blocked number still able to text me?
I blocked a particular phone number from contacting me yet they were able to send a text message yesterday. What's the deal?

How did you block the number?
How did you block the number?
I went to the Verizon website and put the number in the 'block unwanted calls and texts' box. It says the block is effective until February 2013.
When you have the conversation open with that blocked person, is your send button blue or green? If it's blue, it means the person has sent you an imessage, which Verizon cannot block. They can only control SMS messaging
Sounds like you need to check with Verizon.
I've turned off iMessage. Also, I've talked to Verizon before but to no avail
Do you more than one mobile number for that person in your contacts? Could they be messaging you from a second one that you didn't block?
Have you talked to Verizon since this problem started?
Actually I was sent a picture message, not a text. Not sure if that makes a difference
It is possible that Verizon only blocked SMS and not MMS. It would be the most beneficial for you to talk to them directly as we can only speculate
You'd need to ask Verizon that. The picture part of an MMS is sent over data so it seems possible that it would not be blocked. However, only Verizon could give you a definitive answer.
Thank you everyone for the help!
