Hi kip,
Might be the immutable Dock setting, try this in Terminal then kill/force quit the Dock...
defaults write com.apple.dock contents-immutable -bool false
No idea on the list of games, were they n Apple?
I know where fpurce quit is, but I do not know where terminal is. I will need step by step instructions. Please. I have an Mac lepord.
I tried that, did not work. There is no dock in force quit.
Kip
Then just restart after doing that command.
I might have the wrong syatem here I think it is 10.5.8 Lepord. I right clicked that link and clicked on copy link and then pasted it in teminal, pressed return then rebooted and it is still the same. Should I be in a different area?
Kip
This is the Leopad/10.5.0 to 10.5.8 forum.
Might Try this...
Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
Then move these files to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
Reboot & test.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.
I held the shift key down for three minutes and the screen stayed grey. A couple of minutes after I let it up the log on screen appeared, I loged on and now I have three more question marks where there use to be icons and the programs are missing. I have no idea where the disk utility is. I then held the key down with a plastic clamp and booted the system up, after about twenty minutes it went to the log on screen. I still have all those question marks and they cannot be removed.
Hmmm, did the login window say Safe Boot in red at the top?
Does Right click on the icon give the option to Remove from Dock? Does that not work also?
I'm guessing you didn't move those plist files & reboot?
There was no red flag "safe boot", and I could not find the "disk utility", so I could not move those files. Righe click produces the same three options and not remove.
You don't actually have to find Disk Utility, but it should be in Applications>Utilities folder.
Worried that we haven't Safe Booted yet.
I went to the utilities, there is no disk utilities and the system profiler says it is a iMac 7,1. Do you think I should be headed for a repair ststion? Would a phone in thing help? When I opened one of the things in there I could not close it, I had to right click the icon on the task bar.
Kip
Do you have the 10.5.x Install Disc?
You can use Disc Utility from that...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
Well there we are bumbed out again, no I do not have the disk and I cannot find it in the Apple Store. There is only one person I know that has a Mac. I will check with him and see if he has one. Thanks for the explicid directions I need that. I went into the start up disk and it listed OS X 10.5.8 as the system.

A Disc from another Mac won't work if a Gray Machine specific Disc.
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
