Additional colors for MS Word's highlight feature.

How can I create additional colors for MS Word's Highlight Feature? Of the dozen that exist, too many are too dark to be used and don't match the colors in the choices. Short of new, less saturated colors, is there some way to tweek the ones there to lighten them up?

Unfortunately, that doesn't answer the OP's question: "How can I create additional colors for MS Word's Highlight Feature?"

Using the "Shading" option is an extraordinary pain—about four steps instead of one, especially if you can't or don't want to use one of the canned colors—and it's impossible to create a color and then re-use it the next time you want to highlight something; you have go through the whole tedious process again, and good luck hitting the same color you hit the last time.

Of course, this is Microsoft, so I guess it's to be expected, but the original question stands: "How can I create additional colors for MS Word's Highlight Feature?"

Not sure which verison of Word you are using, but the following works in 2008 and 2011 version.

In Word, select the text you want to highlight and under the Format menu (at the top of your screen), select Borders and Shading ...

and then select Shading from the three tabs at the top of the box that appears.

You will see quite a few more colors, but you can also click the button More Colors and there are an infinity of shades you can create and use, for instance with the color wheel.

On the lower right of this Borders and Shading box select Apply to "text" in the drop down selection. The selected text will be highlighted with your new color.

1725 Days since this was posted and still no solution. I agree with the poster. I can't help wondering if there are only 11 users in the world with this issue. Maybe the rest don't care to subscribe and add their vote. It boggles my mind that - with Apple being so rich in graphic displays at any sort of level and variety of applications - that a simple utility like a text highlighter is so limited in options. Mind you: the Windows version of Word has an unlimited scale of colours in this feature.
