ipad mini email not working

I have iOS 6.0.1 on iPhone 4 and 6.0.2 on iPad Mini. Both devices' native apple email clients stopped getting Exchange and Google emails yesterday. I would reboot both and they would work temporarily and then would stop working after a few minutes. I have deleted every new apps that were downloaded to both machines as of yesterday. I also deleted gmail account and re-installed. Email client still hangs. I can't delete Exchange as it is controlled by AirWatch. How do I diagnose the problem? Any guess? Short of factory reset my devices, I am not sure what to do. I normally toss the devices to our capable IT but next week everyone is off. I am about to hit the road, so more stressed than necessary. Help?! Thanks very much ....

Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again.
