Itunes hangs on disconnect / reconnect of internet connection

Quite often I do stream internet radio stations using Itunes. I am listening through my BeoCenter2. When I swich of the BeoCenter2, I often forget to

stop the stream in Itunes. This would not a problem, but because my internet provider drops the connection every night for one second.

This disconnect / reconnect is not handled by Itunes correctely. From this moment on Itunes is frozen and hangs. Itunes has to be killed.

Any advice? Or is there a bug fix on the way?

With iTunes 11.0.1(12) this problem is gone. 🙂

Hi,

Thanks for that - good advice I'll file a report.

I've just switched to streaming music this way after struggling for many years with a Logitech Duet. When it worked it was brilliant, but very flaky at times. Naively I thought I would switch to something totally reliable and sorted. To be fair the remote app works brilliantly on iphone and no problem with streaming my music collection - just that, like you, I stream radio feeds too. I cannot believe others don't have the same problem too. My internet connection drops out several times a day, which I'm pursuing as well.

If/when I make progress I'll post it.

Interesting. I deliberately cut the router connection for about ten seconds - tried it three times. On no occasion did itunes freeze - I just had to select play again on the remote app. So at least for me it seems to be an improved situation. Infact last night the internet connection went down of it's own accord for a few seconds (as it does here) and the radio just came back up on it's own.

I'll see what happens just using it on an everyday basis - as we know it's not always immediately obvious whether a bug is finally cleared.

Hi,

what I guess is, that this problem is not really an iTunes bug - more a network problem in the OS.

As you see from my earlier posts, I thought that the problem has gone - but it has not. I think it is more a random problem depending on several circumstances:

- duration of the drop

- reconnect with the same IP address or a new IP address

- getting the dyndns record updated in time

- state of the IP stack - what kind of packets were lost during the drop

- ...

Even if it is hard to reproduce the reasons for the bug, Apple seems to be uninterested in this bug
