How to check whether MacBook 13" is faulty or Battery A1185.

Battery symbol in screen displays a cross.

Battery LEDS light up green for 2 secs. when pressed.

Battery has not been used before, is new.

Please help?!

History: the original battery somehow grew and grew and could not be held anymore by the laptop casing so I removed it. After about a year without a battery, I bought this new one, not original, but an accepted clone ( http://www.better-e.nl/cshop/index.php?route=product/product&keyword=A1185&categ ory_id=37&description=A1185&product_id=350 ). Fits perfectly, but my MacBook 13" A1181 does not seem to recognise it when I put it in. The battery symbol in the screen has a cross. When I push the LEDS on the battery itself, they light up green all 5 for about 2 seconds. In the explanatory article http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3205?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US this is not mentioned so I don't know what it means.

Any help is much appreciated!!

MacBook (13-inch Late 2007), Mac OS X (10.5.8)

I would suggest that you contact the vendor or the manufacturer and see if you can get some assistance or a replacement.

Personally I would purchase batteries only from Apple or OWC.  I have seen too many horror stories from batteries purchased from third parties.

      Thank you for your reply.

But more to the question I posed: is there no way of finding out whether it is the battery that is faulty or the MacBook?

      Thanks in advance,

If the MBP functions with the power adapter, it strongly suggests that it is the battery.  You might want to take it to an Apple Store and have a definitive assessment made.
