Can't upload iPhoto book

Derek,

your profile signature lists two different macs. On which of these is the problem occuring and what is your version of iPhoto? And what iPhoto version did you use to create your book? How is your second partion with the library formatted? Mac OS X extended?

As for my partition, as I said I am not a computer expert but I created it in disc utility and put on it an older version of the operating systed and iphoto but some how when I open the partition (which I called Mac 2) and try to get into iPhoto I just get the message which I quoted above

I suspect, what must have happened, is the following: You created the iPhoto Library using an early iPhoto '11 version in your Mac 2 partition, but somehow you must have opened this library at least once with your newer iPhoto version in your main partition. Now you cannot open it any longer with the iPhoto version in the Mac 2 partition, because the library is in a newer format. And also, you cannot upgrade this iPhoto to the current version, because that requires a newer Mac OS X, at least Mac OS X 10.7.5.

So your only option to open this iPhoto Library in the Mac 2 partition would be to boot again into your Mt. Lion partition and to open it again from your regular partition with the Mt. Lion version of iPhoto.

Derek, when when you click onto a partition on your Desktop, you do not boot your Mac from the operating system in that partition. You only access the files in that partition to read them.

What partition are you booting from now? You see the operating system you are using in the "About" Panel. Click the apple-icon  in the upper left corner of the screen, then "About this Mac".

This will show you the system version and the startup disk you used.

To change to your other partition, use again the apple  menu and select "Restart".

As soon as you hear the startup sound, hold down the "options" key ⌥ and select a disk to start up from. This way you should be able to switch back to Mt. Lion and to open the library in your newer iPhoto. This support article explains this in more detail: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1310

• Boot into your newest system,
• then double click the iPhoto icon in the Applications folder, while holding down the ⌥ key.
• Now select the iPhoto library in your Mac 2 partition. Can you open it now?

You cannot transfer books from one iPhoto Library to another library - not with iPhoto. You can only transfer whole libraries. And if you transfer libraries, you cn only open them with an iPhoto version that is the same (or newer) than the iPhoto version that created the library.

If you want to use an album with an older iPhoto version, export the photos from the library to a folder and then import this folder into the older library.

Or upgrade all iPhoto program to the same version.

Frankly I find it very annoying that having prepared a book in iPhoto it cannot be uploaded.

That is annoying, to be sure. But for many posters here the problem to upload was not caused by Mt. Lion, but by the "improved" security measures at the Apple Store after identities have been stolen. In many cases it helped to simply create new Apple ID, to rest all answers to security questions, to reset the AppleID password, all a lot of bother, but probably still preferrable to having someone else go shopping with your AppleID and credit card.

It is worth a try. If your password is too short (less than 8 letters) or has no Upper case letters, or the answers to your security questions are shorter than 6 characters, if Apple thinks your credit card has expired and one-click no longer works, all that could be a problem.

Not sure I follow the entire thread

but give this a try (having multiple Apple IDs can be a nightmare - I know because I do - and if you can resolve this without resorting to that is is better)

Go to the Apple store (store.apple.com) and re-enter (not just verify) all of your account information and verify that one click ordering is on

Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.

if the preview works and is good boot into safe mode and order
