save files from mac to extern hd ntfs

Hi, I have a Macbook pro (OSX mountain Lion), a external HD for backup (format: Expanded MAC OS), and I want to keep using a second extern HD, in NTFS, to copy mainly photos/documents as a 2nd back up.

I found a solution of installling a "SL-NTFS" from http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/33603/sl-ntfs as solution.

Is it safe?
