Sound not working

... And my control buttons for iTunes and Tune in Radio app also don't work. When I go from the pause button to "play", the pause button immediately replaces it. I hAve iPhone 4 with OS 6.0.1. Whenever I try to change ringtones or other audible sounds, I always just get the vibrate response and not the tone. Button controls are set properly but when I switch from silent to sound, the bell appears instantaneously but I have no control over the plus or minus buttons. Yes, it all came on suddenly today. Weird but we need help!

For the umpteenth time I tried another reset - hold power and home buttons and this time it worked. All my audio functions are back! So do I give myself stars/points for solving my own problem?

1. Double-click the Home button and swipe the Task Bar (at bottom) to the right. Check volume and mute settings.

2. Try a reset. Hold the Sleep and Home button down for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple Logo
