can someone let me know the steps to transfer external hard drive files to the MacBook Pro? i have already created a new user group accont in my MacBook Pro and I can't seem to copy the external hard drive files and find a way to "paste" them into this new user account....

After connecting your external hard drive via USB, firewire, thunderbolt or whatever, it should appear in the sidebar of Finder and also on your desktop if you have not changed the desktop settings. Then you can access the hard disk and copy/paste the files to your mac.
If the hard disk does not show up in FInder, there is a problem with the hard disk or your mac port or the hard disk's cable, etc.
