Resume playback functionality in Apple TV 3

I have an Apple TV 3rd gen. Up until a software update a few months ago, I was able to download a video podcast, watch part of it and then resume playback the next day from the point I left off. Since the software update, I have lost the resume playback function. If I have only watched part of the podcast, I have to resume watching from the start and then fast forward to the approximate point I left off - this seems a retrograde loss of functionality. Is there some setting that I need to tweak to restore the previous playback functionality? Thanks for any help.
