my time capsule is taking too long to back up and ends up never completing the backup for the first 6 months it was working fine i have reset it and erased and restarted it so far what next?

Do a verify on the disk you are backing up.. things can go very slow if the disk has issues.
Otherwise load the widget and get the actual messages from the TM log.
