ipod nano can not be charged

I got a new ipod nana several days ago. I could not charge it when I connected it to computer use the USB. The battery was displayed full charged when it was connected. however, it was totally empty when I removed it form computer. I tried the Apple adpter for my ipad, it did not work either. I don not know how to firgue it out.
