remove administrator?

My mother has bought this mac from a workfriend but does not have the administrator password as the previous owners cant remember it and do not have the disks that came with it.

Honestly this is the first time i have used an apple computer and need help!

Is there a way to bypass this? without the admin password i cannot update any software which is rendering this whole computer pretty much useless at the min!!!

if it helps i am running mac os x 10.4.11 on the imac 5,2

iMac, Mac OS X (10.4.11)

Starts up like the first time you buy a new Mac, but after filling in all that info again, you should have access to the computer and the other Users & files will still be there... give the new User a different name than an existing one.
