Reinstall Mac OX Lion Failure

Hard disk corrupted, 'Disk Utility' failed to repair so I had to erase the hard disk and reinstall Mac OX Lion.

I erased my 'Macintosh HD' with the zero writeover security option successfully, but I'm having problems reinstalling Mac OX Lion.

The 4.X GB download gets to 0 seconds and then restarts from the beginning each time - it has done this over 15 times without luck. I get the below error logged:

"localhost Install Mac OS X Lion[347]: Failed to verify InstallESD.dmg: hdiutil verify failed"

After 3-4 retrys, I get the error 'Couldn't download the additional components to reinstall Mac OX Lion etc'.

Any ideas?

Early 2012 Macbook Pro 13" Mac OX Lion, I've verified and repaired all disks and it tells me no errors.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

This is a server side problem not one at your end. Something is amiss with Apple's servers. Wait a few hours and try again.

Sorry about that. You're quite right.

Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Lion/Mountain Lion

Boot to the Recovery HD:

Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.

Repair

When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.

"IF" the server was the ROOT problem the download would not even start let alone get to the very end and then fail.

I'll know in 2 minutes. But it goes to reason that if the servers were down there would be more posts about it. It's not like the OP is the only one trying to download and install Lion or Mt Lion today. Or maybe he is the only person?????

Download finished and system is rebooting.

My Reinstall via Internet Recovery HD just failed again, I'm now trying using my External Hard Disk.

Just now before I started the Reinstall, I checked the status of my Internal Hard Disk and it says SMART: Verified. When I ran the repair, no errors came up and I get the green message saying 'This partition is ok' etc.

Will update again in 45 minutes. Pointing to a failed hard disk it seems, expected better from a 11 month old Apple!

So your system is 11 monthst old. It is then a Late 2011 model, even though you bought in early 2012. Come to think of it they never had a Early 2012 model. The 2012s came out Mid year so they are listed as Mid 2012 models.

Yeah you would expect it to last longer then that. Apple Mac, Got to love them.

Well, to be fair Apple doesn't make hard drives. They purchase hundreds of thousands of drives from drive manufacturers. Some will fail sooner than others. That's just a statistical phenomenon. Yours may be one of those. Apple really cannot do anything about that nor are they the responsible party. That would be the drive maker - most likely Western Digital.
