Can I transfer a license on a laptop I sold to a different AppleID?

I sold my laptop to a friend and as a gift I purchased Pages for her. I did not realize at the time that the software would be restricted to that AppleID and my friend may not be able to update it without my AppleID and password.

Does anyone know if this is true and if so, is there a way around it. All other threads I have checked are about iPad apps.

I have my own copy of Pages so I am not trying to get a free copy.
