Crucial m4 SSD December 2012 firmware installation?

Dear Forum,

My drive is a 512GB Crucial m4 SSD 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s.

At the Crucial support website, here:

http://www.crucial.com/uk/support/ssd/index.aspx?source=web&cpe=m4firmware_uk

There is a Choose a Product drop-down list to select the firmware update but there are two possible options:

1. Crucial m4 2.5-inch SSD

2. Crucial m4 mSATA SSD

Does anyone know which of these is the correct one to install for my drive?

Regards,

K

Kappy thanks and apologies for not acknowedging earlier. I'm grateful to you.

I've burnt the file to CD but when I press and hold "C" on bootup the CD drive doesn't become the bootable drive for some reason.

My normal boot drive is a Crucial m4 512GB S-ATA which boots up in about 9 seconds. The boot-up chime and dark screen are pretty fleeting but I definitely have the "c" held down during that part of the boot-up sequence Apple's user instructions.

I'm going to post this to the forum as a separate question.

Thanks again for the help in indenifying the correct file to download.

I replied on your other posting regarding this, but you won't be able to boot from the CD by holding down the "C" key unless there is a bootable operating system on that CD. It doesn't sound like there is a bootable operating system on the CD (Mac OS wouldn't fit on a CD anyway).

By the way, the instructions on the Crucial site

http://forum.crucial.com/t5/Solid-State-Drives-SSD-Knowledge/SSD-firmware-update -on-a-Mac/ta-p/111844

say to use the startup manager, holding down the option key (not the "C" key) when restarting the machine, to then select the CD.

You must hold down the option key. The disc that you want to boot from is named "Windows". The procedure is pretty straight forward from there. Just make sure that you've no peroperhals attached to your MBP when you update the firmware - I tried doing it with multiple peripherals ttached and the firmware update couldn't 'see' my 512GB Crucial m4.

Yep - Crucial makes it a pretty simple process - I just had a 'hitch' because I didn't unplug all peripherals before doing the update: and I've a ton of drives and other devices connected via Thunderbolt. Once I disconnected my Thunderbolt cable, all went as it should.

This is, I believe, the third firmware update since I purchased my Crucial m4 SSD in April of 2012... and they just make it easy (one of the reasons I always recommend Crucial).

Glad you got the update installed - now fly like the wind!
