Songs Matched, greyed out in iTunes 11, can't download

iTunes 11 and I are at odds with each other for a number of reasons, but here's what's shakin':

The iCloud icon next to my Music library seems to be in constant "thinking" mode. In Song column view, it lists all the songs that aren't stored locally on my MacBook Air, but they are greyed out and I'm unable to play them/download them.

With iTunes Match turned on on my iPhone 5, I can playback all the songs greyed out on the MBA just fine.

What can I do to make it work as it should in iTunes 11 on my MacBook Air?

MacBook Air, OS X Mountain Lion

Before doing this make sure no one else is on the network downloading anything.

First, shut down the MBA. Turn it off. Then unplug the internet modem and the wireless router (if you have one). Wait a few seconds and power things back up in the order: internet modem, wireless router, MBA (wait for each device to completely power on before doing the next.

Now launch iTunes and nothing else on the MBA. See if this helps.
