how do I import music from thumdrive

I bought a connector that has an iPad connector at one end and a USB connector at the other end. I plugged a thumb drive with WAV music files into this adapter, but my iPad did not respond. I am trying to import music from a PC to my iPad using the thumbdrive.

Do I need any extra software on the iPad to do this? Do I need to convert the music files to something other than WAV files?

iPad, iOS 6.0.1

You don't.

You can only add music through iTunes.

Thank you Johnathan. Is there a way to put my PC music files into iTunes? And once this is done, how do I import them into my iPad? Sorry for sounding so dumb, but I am new to iPad and Apple.

Yes, you can add whatever music you have into iTunes.
