Running repair permissions has got permissions showing in library.

Have checked my gatekeeper settings this is , mac app store and identified developers, the malware loaded straight in

Running disk repair on time machine disk shows no problems

Running verify disk for hard disk shows no problems

Only showing problem is not allowing me to insert disk in disk drive

I will try restart and hold down mouse

I get a little confused at times too....

If you are not experiencing any problems please disreguard below (but it sounds like there are some issues)

by removing the anti-virus's (your stripping the system down a bit) you should nver have both of them running at the same time first and foremost.... maybe there is something going on there.

just make certain your firewall is on when your done with the removal  system preferences - security&privacy - tab firewall.     Also after you check that click on the general tab  at the bottom you should see 'allow apps downloaded" and it gives you 3 options mac app store,  mac & known developer (this is a gate keeper function) under mountain lion.

then go to applications - utilities - disk utility ==== click on macintosh hd --- then do the verify disk permissions

followed by verify disk and repair permissions   (see if you get any errors) and let everyone know.

likewise after restarting computer see if facetime and other issues are happening.

found this article about disk not going in (it reccomends using a terminal command to issue a eject command on a drive)

as for the malware (you have used sophos, intego) both of which stated no malware - is it the drive issue leading you

to this assumption that u have malware ?

the disk repairs etc should of helped -  as for folders giving you issues -  right click on the folder then click get info

on the bottom of the pop up you will see sharing and permissions (see if your account name is there and what privilidges your have)

Which library? You have three. This is not unusual and many can be ignored. See Mac OS X: Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions messages that you can safely ignore.

Have checked my gatekeeper settings this is , mac app store and identified developers, the malware loaded straight in

What malware? I thought you said you haven't found any.

Only showing problem is not allowing me to insert disk in disk drive

The optical drive is strictly electromechanical. There is a software driver which interfaces OS X with the drives read/write head and firmware within the drive, but from what you have described there is either something already in the drive or the sensor/motor that causes the disk to be "sucked" into the mechanism isn't functioning.

Actually most people should leave the firewall in the default mode (off) as long as they are on their own network behind a router that has all the firewall one should ever need. Turning the Mac firewall on actually slows things down unnecessarily. See Thomas Reed's Do I need a firewall?. If you have a portable that you take to Starbucks, school, etc., then it would be best to have it on while you're away.

    hi madmacs,

this in one of those strings that went all over the place (if you follow it from post one) basically after running standard maintenance removing a couple of active a/vs confirming that a couple of system preferences areas did exist..... malware etc....not alble to access folders....we ended up with the only remaining issue being the cd drive.

I suggested the manual eject      open the Terminal app and type in the characters: drutil eject

based on similiar issues people were having which seemed to respolve the issue for them (as shown in the link)

while i agree with what your suggesting  (maybe a drive issue)  just trying to rule out a lot of odds and ends

    So.

    To summarize:  No antivirus required.
