iPhoto: What are Smart Albums?

I have been using iPhoto for a while now to store photos. I use regular folders and albums. What is the difference between a regular album and a smart album and what are the advantages/disadvantages of using one over the other?

An album is created by you and you add photos to it by dragging them there

A Smart album automatically adds photos that meet the criteria you set when you create it

iPhoto has a really neat feature called HELP

Give it a try - you will find it interesting

It includes videos tutorials and discussions about how to use iPhoto features

for example (for images use iPhoto Help - they do not post here from Help)

Create or change a Smart Album

A Smart Album is an album iPhoto creates for you, based on criteria you specify. When you import new photos that meet that criteria, the photos are added to your Smart Albums.

Here's another way of looking at it:

A Smart Album is an answer to a question:

For instance: What are all the photos taken with a Nikon 5100?

Or What are all the photos taken between June 1, 2002 and July 13 2002

or What are all the movies taken between those dates?

or What are all the photos Keyworded "john" or rated 5 stars etc

Regards
