It is ridiculous to stop an older app running on an older phone all of a sudden.

Why creating a large community and users? Knowing that one day you plan on disappointing those who don't upgrade fast enough.

So suggestions of "just update" don't work. You simply can't when your hardware is too old.

    Now the interesting part.

My friends iPhone 3G running iOS 4.2 with WhatsApp 2.8.3 stopped working, same as original post.

My iPhone 3G is running iOS 4.1 with WhatsApp 2.8.4 and still running fine.

Why would that be? Guess I'm next?

you're missing the point miss St. Clair... the idea is... you have a perfectly working app and you decide not to update it because it works for your phone. now why the **** would the dev remove the support for it when it's not costing them anything to keep it working? I mean, sure... you might need to support different code, but you can just say it's no loger supported oficially but you should still allow the users to use it at their own risk.

and for how technology works, you don't seem to have too much of a clue because technology which worked yesterday on my machine should continue to work until I decide to update it (apparently this is not the case with apple because they force their users to buy new hardware for running newer version of the same software which they don't even want or need)

    Still laughing....

  • AlexRmF Level 1 (0 points)

that's what people unable to make a point usually do, are you laghing at your jokes? because you seem to be the only one laughing

  • LexSchellings Level 6 (8,747 points)

plse stop ranting Alex, no one is laughing. It is weird, but you have to rant at the whatsapp forum, not here.

  • rnordsg Level 1 (0 points)

So it is Apple. Thanks for getting the clarification from Whatsapp.

  • AlexRmF Level 1 (0 points)

I'm not ranting, but I hate the people who display the "who cares?" attitude and expect me to appreciate their stupid/useless input

and back to your suggestion... if you didn't know it's apple that needs to be blamed for telling the devs to stop releasing software compatible with iOS 4.2 and lower.

I get the idea of forced hardware refresh, but that doesn't mean that I'll go along with it and not scratch Apple's reputation a little. they should know that doing bad tings will attract other bad things

    As I said:

plse stop ranting Alex, no one is laughing. It is weird, but you have to rant at the whatsapp forum, not here.

  • AlexRmF Level 1 (0 points)

or you can just mind your own business and ignore my "ranting" since you haven't brought any useful suggestions to the table (leaving the forum and shutting up is not for me).

let me tell you... quoting yourself doesn't tell me anything new either, so.. drop the attitude.

whatsapp support is contacted, feedback was sent to apple and you and any other person that has nothing useful to say should shut up and let us, the people with an issue find a solution or at least find someone to blame.

  • LexSchellings Level 6 (8,747 points)

The issue is indeed not "solved" but explained is why it is not solved and who can solve it (Whatsapp). Thus any ranting or whining you should do to Whatsapp, or if you like to Apple, not here. You are the one who broke into this thread and started whining without offering a solution.

I completely support Apple's decision to stop development for the iPhone 3G. At some point in the product lifecycle, it makes sense to halt new development and focus on new and improved technology.

However, never before in my life have I seen a tech company take steps that prevent their legacy products from working properly. Ever the optimist, I am going to assume that Apple has simply overlooked the 3G apps, and that early in 2013 once everyone is back at work, they will do the right thing and add an IPhone 3G section to the iTunes store where we can access the older version of apps for the iPhone 3.

If this is not the case, and if Apple has decided to completely abandon their iPhone 3G users permanently, then I assume there will  be a large percentage of the millions of iPhone 3G users who will decide to choose another smartphone manufacturer. I for one would never buy a second phone from a company that abandons me after only a few years. After I spent ~$600 on a phone that still works fine.

But really, you've got to believe that a high quality, successful company like Apple will do the right thing here...

    Iv just read this -

    The bottom got me

At WhatsApp, our engineers spend all their time fixing bugs, adding new features and ironing out all the little intricacies in our task of bringing rich, affordable, reliable messaging to every phone in the world. That’s our product and that’s our passion. Your data isn’t even in the picture. We are simply not interested in any of it.

Should have 'updating' and 'exluding iPhone 3G' in there somwhere.

This may help or be informal... I have access to my 'iOS files' theres a way in there that someone posted that enables it to work because its made to think its 4.3 when downloading any app update. So Whatsapp?

If they or someone could paste the T & C's on uploading apps as I have looked and I cart get on them as Apple only let devolopers view them....

Im on 4.1 on iphone 4 with alot of apps installed and settings

  • Oyitchy Level 1 (0 points)

Google install 4.3 apps on 4.2 click the first result

now why did I not think of that

  • Oyitchy Level 1 (0 points)

Right, sorry for constant post here.

    Heres a 'update'

Just gone on the updates on my app store and 23 updates required on 4.2.1.... Changed as above to 4.3 now 57 updates... So I'm saying Apple

I like alll others here (mostly), am also iPhone 3g owner, I bought this phone with my first salary and have many sentiments attached to it, I have a Sony Xperia S as well and have whatsapp on it and its working fine. Point is, that I am capable of buying a newer iPhone but, just because I can, that doesn't mean I have to ! Specially if whatsapp and Apple decide one day that they won't support my phone anymore. WHY ?? Was it given to me for free from Apple? **** NO. I paid whopping 33,000 INR in 2009 Oct for this phone. Also, whatsapp, after being a free (I guess best free app), should have been bit sensitiver as well, coz whatsapp doesn't only provide us free messaging etc. it helps us connect in a better way. Coming back to the issue, Apple, you really think you should stop supporting your old phones ?? Its like a father stop caring about the elder son just coz he has got a new baby boy ?? I am sure if Steve Jobs was alive, he wouldn't have let that happen.

Rest as we all know, depends on the COMPANY, and they really won't bother few words, coz they want to make more money, rather than few happy customers. God bless Mr. Jobs, your company has started ****ing now.
