When using the Apple TV remote, it ends up controlling my mac as well?

When I use the remote that came with the Apple TV, if i scroll up or down with it, it adjusts my volume up or down on my macbook pro. If i press the play/pause button on the remote, it starts playing the remote in my itunes on my computer. My mac says that my itunes is not paired with any remotes but why does the remote control my itunes then? I don't want it to, I just want to use it on the Apple TV and have it leave my itunes on my computer alone. Also, if I try and play something just on my mac, it starts to play on my Apple TV too and i don't know how to get it to not do that other than completly quitting the Apple TV on my TV. Is there anyway where I can have the remote not control anything in my itunes?

Thanks

Yes, you can pair a remote with the Apple TV, and you can pair a different remote with your computer (or just turn off IR control if you don't use it).

On the Apple TV, you do this through the system menu. On the computer, it is in System Preferences: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4209
