Why is my macbook not charging? And how do I fix it?

I bought my macbook in 2008, so it is 5 years old. Recently, it started to not charge when it is plugged in. If I hold the charger firm to the side of the port, it charges, but otherwise, it will charge for a few minutes and then quit. I am not sure what is going on. I use my computer a lot for school, so I am frantically trying to find a solution for this problem. Any advice?

Sounds to me like you have a dirty connection between the charger and the macbook. First check that out. Cleaning electronic contacts is best done with a suitable spray cleaner, like this one (no endorsement implied, this link is to clarify not to promote a specific product):
