My Samsung Camcorder does not show up on my MacBook Air.

When I plug in my camcorder (HMX-W300) it does not show up in finder. It has a usb in the bottom of the camera but when I put it in my mac it does not show up in finder. I do not have iPhoto (I restored my mac and lost it) so I cant do it manually.

MacBook Air, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Some camera devices need to be set to specific modes like "Pict Bridge" or "Mass Storage" before they will show up in OS X. See if your camera has such modes for the USB connection, and give them a try. Does the Mac's "Image Capture" utility show the camera as being available? This utility should be in the /Appllications folder on your system.
