Ask the person you got it from for the password, open the Users & Groups pane of System Preferences, and change it or create a new administrator account.

I would recommend you reinstall OS X from scratch. The person should have given you the OS X installation discs with the system, which you can boot to and use to format the system and install a fresh copy of OS X. This will give you the most stable system that you can configure yourself, instead of being frustrated with another person's configuration.
