Q: os 10.8.2 and airport utility upgrades don't have the vital extend this network box.. only the 5.6 utility has it which will not run on Lion.... what can I do?

Airport utility 6.1 does not have the vital extend this network check box. It is available in 5.6.. to down load 5.6 I need to have snow lepoard. I have Lion. what can I do/ Downgrage  lion to down grade airport utilities to extend my network? I'm using airport extreme and want to extend with an express to be able to use the laptop in the back of the house...

    It sounds like you must be looking at some old setup instructions that were used prior to the introduction of the Lion and Mountain Lion operating systems.

     

    The (hidden) setting in AirPort Utility 6.1 to "allow this network to be extended" is automatically enabled in AirPort Utility 6.1, so you do not need to worry about this if you are using AirPort Utility 6.1 to configure devices.

     

    Do you need help configuring the AirPort Express to extend your network?

     

    If yes, we need to know if you plan to "extend" by connecting the AirPort Express to your AirPort Extreme using a wired Ethernet connection.....or.....whether you plan to "extend" using wireless only.
