Hi All,

I had this Sound / Speaker issue too on my iPhone 4S, with only Ringtone & Headphones working and no other sound coming despite several software hacks and solutions read on forums here. I managed to solve it today after reading online for a perfect solution.

This seems to be a fairly frequent problem amongst users who are using 3rd party (Cheap Chinese) dock connectors or chargers. There is some residue on the charging connector and hence it seems to be stuck in Dock/Headphone mode. I personally had this issue that only Ringtone and Headphone were working. I cleared some stuck particles from the dock connector in iPhone below and voila ! Sound works perfectly. Try it using a cotton bud / swab with removed cotton or I did it with inverted metal paper clip carefully avoiding to scrap and destroy the PCB board. (Other common solution was to remove water particles from headphone hole but I didnt have any)

All the best,

Cheers !

I just replaced the battery on my 4s. These phones are incredibly badly assembled. My speaker hasn't been working well for months--it was very soft. I almost bought a new speaker at I fixit, where I got the battery. I decided to try to remove the speaker before I ordered a new one. When I put it back in, voila, it works again. It isn't hard to do. You just need a tiny pent screwdriver and a tiny Phillips head. Go to ifixit.com and it explains the procedure for getting the back off. When you get your phone open, take a look at how askew some of the tiny parts are. There was a little part obscuring both the camera flash and lens. I looked in my wife's phone and it was the same. These things cost too much money for this kind of poor craftsmanship. Apple needs to start beating their slaves more, or better yet, pay them more and pay taxes too

Iphone 4S: I tried the cleaning the connector and headphone ports, reinserting and / or wiggling the headphone and charging cable, powering off, restoring, and resetting to DFU, none of which worked. This happened to my 4S after using a third-party Stereo iPod Dock: Pansonic HC-SC35. I fixed it by redocking the iphone into my third-party Stereo iPod Dock (Pansonic HC-SC35), playing some sound through the dock, then undocking. I couldn't recreate the problem so I can't determine if the Panasonic Dock caused it or why it happens.
